Day-by-Day Itinerary
Fes - Ifrane - Ifrane (Cedar Forest) - Midelt - Erfoud - Merzouga Dunes
Pickup from your Fes hotel or Riad at 07:30 AM. We depart south, traversing the Middle Atlas Mountains. We stop briefly in the Swiss-style town of Ifrane and the ancient Cedar Forest of Ifrane, where we halt to meet and feed wild Barbary macaque monkeys. We stop for lunch in Midelt. In the afternoon, we drive through the date-palm capital of Erfoud. Late afternoon, we arrive at our beautiful Merzouga Glamping dunes site. Enjoy dinner and check into your private room.
Desert Dune Exploration - Khamlia Village - Nomad Visit - Sunset Camel Trek
Following breakfast, we mount 4x4 vehicles to explore the vast desert dunes. We visit native Saharan nomads living in traditional wool tents, learning about their life in the arid plains. Next, we visit Khamlia village to hear the hypnotic, spiritual Gnawa music played by descendants of sub-Saharan Africans. Following a traditional lunch, we return to the camp. Change over to camels and trek across golden Erg Chebbi dunes during sunset, returning to Merzouga Glamping for dinner.
Merzouga Dunes - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Ifrane Cedar Forest - Fes
Rise early to climb a dune and witness an unforgettable desert sunrise. Ride camels back to base for breakfast and showers, then load our minibus. We drive north, admiring the huge palm tree formations of the Ziz Valley gorge. We cross the Atlas Mountains and stop for lunch in Midelt. We arrive back in Fes by approximately 06:30 PM. Drop-off is arranged at your Fes hotel or Riad.
